This role is part of the Refuse, Recycling and Street Cleansing service within the Environment and Sustainable Transport Directorate.  Our service is committed to making our streets and estates cleaner, greener and safer for our residents.

About the job

We are looking to appoint a Public Space Monitoring Officer to join the team based at Folkestone Road Depot in East Ham.  The primary role of the Officer will be to travel the borough inspecting and monitoring the cleanliness of LB Newham’s housing stock. Inspections will rate the cleanliness internally and externally and will require the post holder to gather and collate information, documenting & evidencing using photographs. Additional monitoring will also be required at recycling bring banks across the borough and Jenkins Lane Reuse and Recycling Centre.

The post holder will work in partnership with services across the Council and with external contractors and will be required to develop good working relations in order to carry out their duties effectively.

The post holder will undertake administrative tasks including but not limited to the investigation and response to complaints, responding to resident requests to access our borough’s disposal facility, reporting issues, raising purchase order and invoices and creating, maintaining, and updating computer and manual records, databases and maps as required.

The post reports to the Waste and Public Space Manager

About you

The successful candidate will need to demonstrate they are happy travelling and being outdoors in all weather conditions, they have a genuine commitment to improving and maintaining standards across the borough and are flexible in their ability to work in a changing environment.  

In addition, good communication, administration, IT skills and attention to detail are required.
