Teacher of Science

Salary: MPS/UPS

Required for January 2021

St Paul’s Way Trust is an outstanding ‘Through School’ with a record of accomplishment of innovation. Drawing extensively on academic research the school provides a unique curriculum experience centred on our six ‘Graduate’ strands. Our award winning new building is situated in the heart of East London. Professor Brian Cox OBE is our Patron.

Our exceptional links with QMUL, King’s College London, The University of Warwick, The UCL Institute of Education and the University of East London help shape an inspirational science curriculum including that we are London’s only Faraday science school. Science is an increasingly popular subject at KS4 and KS5 with the majority of students in our expanding academic sixth form studying at least one of the sciences.

This is an excellent career opportunity for a colleague who is passionate about the entitlement of young people to a rich and challenging Science curriculum. Working within a supportive and collaborative faculty, you will be an outstanding classroom teacher with a passionate commitment to the progress of all students in our heavily oversubscribed school.    The successful candidate will have an unwavering belief in the potential of every student. They will do what it takes to ensure that students achieve their best, and will have the contagious enthusiasm for the subject, which excites and motivates students.

The culture of the SPWT science department aims to support new and experienced teachers to thrive and be continuously developed. We have high expectations of all students to be taught the best powerful knowledge as defined by the scientific community.

We believe all teaching should be evidence informed so teachers can focus on high impact methods in their practice. Planning of lessons are based on principles derived from cognitive science and distributed through the department to drive collaboration. The science department delivers CPD weekly that focuses on making our subject knowledge strong with a focus on high quality teacher explanations. Using the best evidence available to develop our feedback policy, we focus on whole class feedback rather than written comments.

The faculty aims for all teachers to have sensible workload with our curriculum and systems are continuously reviewed to ensure we are spending our time on the highest impact activities.

A well-resourced and experienced technician team also supports the science faculty. Within our school community, the faculty encourages students' curiosity and scientific interests, culminating in our unique and annual Summer School.

If you would like to play your part in delivering outstanding provision, whilst receiving the very best support to develop your career, then we would very much like to hear from you. You are also very welcome to visit the school and we would recommend it.

Please note, we do not accept CVs alone.
