Southwark Youth Offending Service has recently been reviewed by the HMIP Inspectorate, and they have confirmed earlier findings that the YOS ‘delivers an excellent service through energised, skilled and capable staff. We have a well-embedded practice framework, underpinned by our above principles.  We make extensive use of systemic and strengths-based practices, as well as restorative, attachment and trauma informed approaches.  This was noted by HMIP Inspectorate earlier this year, HMIP  ‘it was a pleasure to come back to Southwark YOS and see how the trauma informed practice had developed and matured over time, staffs knowledge of child development was impressive and the support from the clinical team was outstanding, it lead to ways of working that we don’t see everywhere.’   Here in Southwark, we offer the chance to deliver holistic in depth work supported by key workers in a multi-agency setting, which also includes specialists in ETE, Restorative justice, SALT and a health and well being worker.  New initiatives in our service include a health and well being programme, a peer mentoring scheme and an innovative approach to preventing knife crime.

The Role

We are dedicated to high quality relationship-based social work, that is child-centred, family-minded, strengths and evidence-based, outcome-focused and fair.  We are looking for an outstanding team manager who can work to our high standards, who will lead, inspire, motivate and support their teams to deliver a high quality youth justice service including assessing need, planning and delivering focused interventions to prevent offending, safeguard children and young people, achieving  the best possible outcomes for children, young people and families.   In return we will support you with extensive training, dedicated clinical advice and support, small teams and caseloads, and administrative support.

We are seeking a skilled team manager who has the professional potential and personal attributes that our staff, children and their families need, and who want to be supported to flourish.  We have fantastic career progression opportunities through a wide range of induction and training courses.

As a team manager choosing Southwark you will benefit from:

Small teams with low caseloads (counted per child), below the national average, and administrative support

Access to dedicated advice, reflective developmental support, and targeted specialist interventions from systemic practitioners and psychologists, embedded within teams

Ongoing training and career development opportunities, including the accredited Foundation Level in Systemic Practice for all our managers, as well as encouragement and support to undertake our ILM courses accredited by the Institute of Leadership and Management and Youth Justice Board Inset training.  We also offer a wide range of training in practice development and supervision, restorative practices, secure base, and attachment or trauma informed practice.  You can also use Southwark’s Professional Qualifications Scheme to access sponsorship for a wide range of bespoke CPD.

Support, advice and guidance from dedicated specialist staff including Child Exploitation Coordinator, CAMHS, Group work leads, as well as a range of other support and learning and development opportunities.

Cycle to work or season-ticket loans, and further employee benefit schemes

An extensive range of excellent community services to support your team’s work with families, in a borough committed to ‘Keeping Families Strong’ and a ‘Fairer Future’ for all.

If you have experience in youth justice, a passion for working with adolescents and their families, resilience and creativity to lead a committed team and help us realise our vision, we want to hear from you.
