Public Health in Camden and Islington provide a unique shared service that forms a key part of both Councils, and is leading the way in improving the health and wellbeing of both boroughs’ populations and reducing health inequalities.

We are seeking to appoint for two dynamic and innovative public health strategists to join our successful team on a fixed term (18 months) basis. These are cross cutting strategic roles which will provide wide range of opportunities for developing your public health career further.

Based in two of the most diverse boroughs in London, with significant areas of deprivation, we have been working across both organisations and with health and other partners over a number of years to reduce health inequalities and improve health outcomes. Since February, the key priority for the public health team has been the local response to the Covid-19 pandemic, and this is likely to continue to be a significant area of work for the time being.

In this role, you will mainly support the local developments and response to the Covid-19 pandemic in Camden and Islington, but will also have a major input into strategies that further shape and strengthen the public health services and support both Council’s ambition to build healthier, and more resilient communities.

These posts will support the equitable, and evidence-based delivery of Local Government, NHS and other services to people in the boroughs of Camden and Islington to promote better health and wellbeing and to reduce health inequalities. You will bring a range of public health competencies to the department. You should be able to demonstrate: a suitable postgraduate qualification in public health or equivalent; strong track record in developing, delivering and evaluating public health programmes, including experience of meaningful resident engagement; have strong communication, negotiating and project management skills; and good understanding of the public health statutory responsibilities of the local authority in relation to health improvement.
