About us

The financial heart of the UK, the Square Mile is an engine of national wealth. Yet our governing body, the City of London Corporation, faces its own challenges in supporting people who are homeless or at risk of losing their homes. Although we have a resident population of just 8,000 people, we also share wider community responsibilities for tackling rough sleeping and the prevention of homelessness. We’re committed to harnessing the strength of our relationships across the public, community, charitable and private sectors and are now appointing our first specialist Adult Social Worker to focus on support for rough sleepers and those experiencing homelessness within the City.

The role

This unique opportunity is joint funded through the central government Rough Sleeping Initiative (RSI) grant and City of London Adult Social Care budget. Your challenge is to ensure a comprehensive, integrated approach to supporting some of the most vulnerable adults in the Square Mile. It’s a frontline role that means building rapport with those experiencing homelessness, addressing a range of complex needs, and assisting with safeguarding issues. Leading by example, you’ll develop best practice across the team and contribute expertise on homelessness issues. The nature of the work means you may need to be available for early morning or late evening outreach shifts.

About you

A qualified and registered social worker, you will have significant experience in homelessness, rough sleeping and mental health, including in-depth knowledge of the Care Act, Mental Capacity Act and other relevant legislation and statutory guidance.  You’ll be used to delivering direct social work, from initial contact to support plans. Your familiarity with the work of key agencies will equip you to create imaginative, client-focused care packages.  Computer literacy and the ability to prepare and present reports are also essential.
