About the role

Assistant Finance Manager

£44,607 - £47,511pa

We are looking for experienced finance professionals to help us shape and embed our new finance service. We have a number of roles available at the Assistant Finance Manager level, across Strategy, Financial Reporting and Business Partnering, all focussed on ensuring our transformation is delivered efficiently and effectively, at speed. We are looking for innovative individuals who can lead by example and help build a sustainable, highly effective, service that delivers exceptional support for one of our front-line departments; Adults and Health, Children’s Services, Housing, and Environment.

With a new leadership team and a collective ethos of improvement, we want to forge a new path at Newham. Ultimately, this is about making everyday life better for over 350,000 people across the borough, as well as millions of workers and visitors. You’ll introduce more robust planning, find new revenue streams – and help us invest further in our resident-centric services.

We’ll expect you to be the key contact for and provide professional counsel to colleagues and senior stakeholders. In turn, you’ll develop the staff working under you and support senior managers and contribute towards a high performing department.

Successful applicants will be fully CCAB qualified with some post qualification experience.  You will be able to work independently and in a team as needed. You will have experience managing change and be comfortable working in a local government setting. You will be able to confidently work with senior figures as well as having the people management skills to manage a team.
