Sessional Family Group Conference Coordinators

An exciting opportunity has arisen for sessional FGC coordinators. The successful candidates will be a part of a creative FGC service that works systemically with families to ensure the best outcomes for our children.

About Croydon

Having been awarded ‘Good’ by Ofsted this is an exciting time to join us in Croydon Children’s (FGC) Services. As if that wasn’t enough, Croydon has been named as the London Borough of Culture for 2023. We have invested in our workforce and created a positive environment for our workers to make a difference and achieve change for our most vulnerable children and families through direct relationship-based practice. We have supported our staff to have an understanding of systemic theoretical framework and models underpinning our interventions; to have access to the right tools, equipment and resources; and, the right supervision, training and learning opportunities they need to be strong practitioners.

Croydon is one of the fastest growing populations in the UK and is home to 94,000 children. Most of all what makes Croydon special is our people – both within the council and throughout the borough.

About the role

To deliver an effective Family Group Conference Service in line with service commitments and priorities.

To collaborate and co-work with other workers and colleagues from statutory, voluntary and community agencies to achieve the aims of the service.

About you

Being an accredited FGC coordinator you will plan, organise, coordinate and facilitate initial Family Group Conferences and reviews responding appropriately to the needs of families from diverse backgrounds. You will exercise a high degree of independence, initiative and expertise in order to coordinate meetings which bring together families, community members and professionals to make and agree safe plans for children and young people within their network.

As a sessional FGC coordinator you would receive referrals on an ad hoc basis. You would be self-employed and would be one of a list of sessional workers who would be offered pieces of work when the volume of work becomes too much for the substantive establishment to manage. This means that the amount of work you would receive from the local authority would not be guaranteed.

For an informal discussion regarding this role, please contact Brian Amos, service manager. Email brian.amos@croydon.gov.uk; tel: 020 8604 7557.
