Join Camden’s new estates management service

We are looking for talented people to join our new estates management service which launches in 2020. A local team to support residents and keep their homes clean and safe, this new service will play an important part in our communities and has been shaped by the people who call our council houses home.

Estates management is hugely important to the council and residents. The newly launched service includes highly trained caretakers focused on providing a more local service and keeping our residents safe.

The role

We have an exciting opportunity in Estates Management Service to recruit a number of Caretakers to provide a visible presence and trusted service for the delivery of a flexible, responsive, high quality service on our housing estates, and the small number of street properties which receive a caretaking service. Caretakers ensure a high standard of cleanliness to internal elements of residential buildings, in addition to the external areas within the boundaries of an estate. Core responsibilities include, monitoring contractors working on site, carrying out quality control checks, monitoring refuse collections and the work of the Council’s grounds maintenance contractors. You will be required to report repairs and issues relating to anti-social behaviour, as well as working with residents, tenant and resident associations or other resident led groups.

Caretakers will have a designated patch and can work at any site in the borough. They are responsible for ensuring that estates remain safe, clean and secure. Caretakers are the face of Camden Council and must be smart and presentable, ensuring that the provided uniform is worn at all times. Core working hours are Monday to Friday 8.00am - 4.00pm (8.00am - 5.00pm on Wednesdays).

The successful candidates will be experienced in identifying and reporting communal repairs and undertaking project work such as painting and minor repairs. You will be willing to attend emergencies on Camden sites during normal working hours working at any Camden sites as required. You will also have good communication skills (verbal and written) and ability to work on your own, as well as part of a team, to achieve results.

About you

The ideal candidate will have strong customer service and communication skills and will be able to engage and resolve a wide range of issues. You will also have a good working knowledge of estate cleanliness, including safe working practices such as knowledge of health & safety and COSHH regulations. You will have a proven track record of working on a busy housing estate providing a high standard of cleaning. You will be required to demonstrate good interpersonal skills and be able to work collaboratively with a wide variety of people including a broad range of internal and external agencies.

If you have the drive and ability to build a career in one of Camden’s most diverse and exciting services, we would like to hear from you. This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act and DBS checks will be undertaken for all successful candidates prior to appointment.

If you feel that you have the skills and experience for this role we’d love to hear from you!

When completing your application, please tell us about your specific skills, knowledge and experience, demonstrating how you meet the requirements of the role.
