The role

Southwark libraries are valued by our customers for providing high quality and accessible services, with convenient opening times in easy to reach locations. We have a vacancy for a library manager at based at Dulwich library and managing 3 other libraries in the south of the borough.

We are looking for an experienced and dynamic person to further develop these already successful libraries and to maximise their benefits to local people.

The post holder will be part of the senior libraries management team taking an active role in helping to strategically develop the service and deliver on the Libraries & Heritage Strategy.

You will be responsible for the day to day running of Dulwich library, the management of staff, stock and the building and you will manage the managers at the other 3 libraries in your area.

All of our libraries deliver weekly events and activities from story times for under 5's to reading groups for people of all ages as well as a structured programme of learning opportunities .

Your role will be to promote the library to the local community, increasing take up and improving the service to respond to local need.

You will focus on delivering excellent customer service working with a team of staff, volunteers and partners to ensure that the library is welcoming to all.

*You will be a qualified librarian or have experience of working in public service.

*You will have in depth knowledge about libraries and their role in supporting culturally diverse communities.

*You will have experience of managing people, premises and budgets.

*You will be experienced in using a range of IT and be confident in supporting the public to access information online.

*You will have experience of coordinating and delivering events and activities to promote the library to the whole community including those at risk of exclusion
