Development Manager
Newham is looking for an enthusiastic and highly-motivated leader with proven Development Management experience to join our dynamic Planning Service.

We are based at Newham Dockside, which is a state of the art building overlooking London City Airport, just one minute walk from Royal Albert DLR Station. The contract will be offered on a permanent basis.

This is a rare opportunity for an enthusiastic and highly-motivated individual with proven Development Management team leader experience, to join our dynamic, high performing Planning Team.
The job requires a high calibre Development Management team manager with comprehensive knowledge of the practical application of legislative standards, guidance and policy. You will contribute to Service planning and be responsible for delivery against key performance indicators relating to non-major development and maintaining our ranking as a national exemplar of service excellence. You will contribute to Service planning and be responsible performance management. The post holder will attend and advise Development Committees with responsibility for the editing and quality of committee reports and lead as an expert and act on behalf of the Council on matters concerning legal action and related proceedings.

The successful candidate will have:
• A recognised degree in Town Planning and a member of the RTPI or eligible for membership;
• Experience of management of a group of professional, technical and administrative staff within a Local Authority team;
• Experience of developing good working relationships with a wide range of internal bodies and customers as part of developing effective Service delivery; and
• An ability to plan and work towards a long term strategic vision and translate that vision into reality.
