Newham is an exciting place to work with a young, vibrant and diverse population. We have an opportunity for an experienced and skilled Senior Commissioner to join the strategic Public Health commissioning team.

Senior Commissioner (Public Health)

The post is permanent.

£51,309 pa–  £62,697pa

The London Boroughs of Newham, Tower Hamlets, Waltham Forest and Redbridge are collaborating to form a ‘back office’ sexual health shared service. The post holder will contribute to the ongoing development and performance management of the shared service, specifically the lead commissioner functions. This exciting opportunity will allow the post holder to shape how this service delivers sexual health services to our residents.

The post holder will work within the shared service and act as the lead commissioner for the north east London integrated sexual health service provided by Barts Health, a five year £60-80m contract which commenced in late 2017. The role involves working with directors, public health consultants and heads of commissioning within the shared service boroughs to enact collective decisions and actions pertaining to sexual health services.  

The post holder will represent the shared sexual health service boroughs at a range of London collaborative meetings.

The portfolio of the role may expand over time to cover wider public health, health and social care responsibilities.  

There may be direct line management responsibilities within the wider Public Health Commissioning Team.  The post-holder will work closely with the external provider of our Business Intelligence systems which are Power BI based. The post will be managed by the Head of Commissioning – Public Health Commissioning

This will be a challenging role with an expectation of fast paced delivery and an adaptable approach on the part of the post holder. Stakeholder management will be a key asset given the cross borough working.   Candidates must have:

  • Experience of leading a complex Public Health related procurement through a commissioning cycle.
  • Experience of managing contracts within health and local authority environments, including as part of partnership commissioning arrangements with health and/or local authority partners..
  • Experience of complex tariff based provider remuneration, activity analysis and spend controls.
