Islington Council is looking for a politically astute problem-solver who shares the values of the Labour Party to support the Council's political administration to continue to innovate and lead by example in its work to help make Islington a fairer place for all.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone with extensive experience of supporting elected representatives and/or senior decision-makers, who has a solid knowledge of key policy issues affecting local government and Islington residents and who has a strong understanding of what makes effective communications.

Working directly to the Leader of the Council, Council Executive and Labour Group Councillors, this post offers the right candidate the chance to help shape Council policy, affect change both locally and on national issues and play a central role in the operation of a pioneering local authority.

You must be flexible in your approach, be able to work with elected representatives and senior Council officers and have a strong commitment to equality, diversity and fairness.

The post holder is responsible for the management of two members of staff, therefore previous line management experience is welcomed (but not essential). The post holder is also responsible for supporting the administration of the Labour Group and its meetings, so awareness of internal Labour Party structures and procedures would be welcomed.

A friendly and positive personality is essential, as well as a problem-solving attitude and the ability to respect confidentiality.

If you have excellent communication skills, strong attention to detail, are able to build good relations with a variety of people, take the initiative and can work as part of a team, we want to hear from you.
