Statutory Funerals Officer
Croydon Council is very proud of the service it provides through its Crematorium, three Cemeteries and Public Mortuary. To help further improve our standards we are seeking to recruit a Statuory Funerals Officer. You will be joining a small and busy team. The main purpose of this role is to arrange funerals and the protection of property in accordance with Section 46 of the 1984 Public Health Act.
Other responsibilities include, the sensitive undertaking of property searches, to establish if the deceased had any next of kin, register the deceased death, liaise with our selected funeral director, liaise with family and friends to glean specific requirements for the funeral service, to maintain Council data bases, to ensure compliance with Data Protection and Financial Regulations in relation to the deceased property and documents and to liaise with various financial organisations in order to recover monies owed to the Council from the deceased estate.
This is a busy and highly responsible role and attention to detail is paramount along with a methodical, organised and sensitive approach to your work load.
The successful candidate would ideally have experience in working within the funeral industry or similar background, however, full training will be given.
You will also be required to assist and support our team of five Bereavement Services Advisors during busier periods. A full UK driving license is essential, applicants without a driving licence will not be considered.
