Waltham Forest is looking for an enthusiastic and energetic individual to join our sexual health outreach team, focusing on the new Council Priority of improving children's life chances. This role will involve educating and engaging with young people to remove barriers to STI screening and contraception. The role is unique and dynamic which allows flexibility to meet the needs of our young people living, studying, working or visiting Waltham Forest. The role will involve some evenings and weekend work, especially during the summer months.

Some of the outreach duties undertaken will be:

  • Drop in sessions within schools, colleges and drug and alcohol services
  • Develop screening opportunities at local events
  • Support the service to increase C Card outlets across the borough
  • Develop a mystery shopping programme involving young people
  • Design and deliver seminars and workshops on current topics such as sexual health awareness, online safety and risk taking behaviour
  • Collate and analyse data on service performance across all outlets

The post is supported by the Public Health team and sits within Early Help.  You will be joining Waltham Forest at an exciting time in the development of the public health function, contributing towards achieving the priorities set out in JSNA and the Health and Wellbeing Strategy around children and young people which include reducing STIs and teenage pregnancy, promoting the mental and emotional health of children, reducing smoking and drug and alcohol use and increasing immunisation uptake.

We are looking for someone who is young people focused with experience of delivering to large groups, particularly in schools and other educational settings. Experience within education and sexual health would be an asset. Ideally the person will be familiar with working in Waltham Forest or a borough with a similar demographic profile.   

You will work in co-operation with other colleagues within Public Health, council directorates, schools, and the NHS and voluntary sector and will need to establish and maintain a wide range of working relationships. You will need to develop a good understanding of the context of services in the borough which impact on lifestyle, health and health inequalities of young people.
