Working within the Council’s Highways and Traffic Team, you will be actively involved in the design and management of a variety of highway projects. This will include working on your own projects and working with others as part of a larger team.
The post is within the Major Highways Project Team that are responsible for managing projects from concept through to implementation. You will regularly consult with various professional disciplines within the Council’s Highways Traffic and Parking division such as Road Safety, Parking and Structures and also other departments within the Council such as Legal, Planning and Regeneration.
You will also liaise with external stakeholders, residents and local business to achieve outcomes that meet the Council’s objectives.
In this varied role, you will be responsible for design, consultation, project management, managing external consultants, and supervision of contractors on your projects. You will need to have a good understanding of highway design in urban areas, be able to use AutoCAD and Microsoft Office computer packages. It would be beneficial if you are able to use 3D Civils or MX Bentley software for highway alignment design. You will be required to produce reports on a regular basis to key stakeholders and internal departments and members.
As the successful candidate, you will have worked in a highways design team environment and be familiar with design standards and guidance such as Traffic Signs Manual, Design Manual for Road and Bridges, Manual for Streets (I &II), and the Manual Contract for Highways Works. A relevant qualification in Civil Engineering or a transport related qualification is essential. Ideally the candidate would be working towards their professional review with an appropriate organization.
