About Us:

Westminster is at the very heart of London and a crucial part of the World City. It contains instantly recognisable landmarks such as Buckingham Palace, the Palace of Westminster, Trafalgar Square and Piccadilly Circus as well as the capital’s internationally renowned shopping thoroughfares of Oxford, Regent and Bond Streets.

Our area comprises a rich mix of vibrant and diverse neighbourhoods including Chinatown, Soho, Mayfair, Covent Garden, St John’s Wood and Knightsbridge. When you add the exciting regeneration projects in the equally diverse and challenging areas around Edgware Road, Harrow Road, Queens Park Estate and Paddington, you will realise why Westminster is one of the most challenging and interesting places to work as a planner. With 11,000 listed buildings, 56 conservation areas and constant pressures for commercial and residential development, you can see why a job with us is unique.

The Role:

Our job at Westminster City Council is to deliver an unrivalled city of choice and aspiration – A City for All – where all can benefit from our city’s continued success.

We don’t focus simply on what we do – we also care about how we do it. Our values and the way we behave are central to how we work. You’ll build the working relationships and credibility to embed our values at the heart of everything we do.

We regard planning enforcement as a vital part of the overall town planning process and give it a high corporate priority. Our Planning Enforcement Team is resourced accordingly with 24 professional planning and investigations officers. If you would relish the prospect of dealing with planning enforcement issues in our diverse and fast-paced urban environment, then this post could be the career move for you.

You will deal with a wide range of planning enforcement matters across the borough of Westminster. Senior Planning Officers take responsibility for the professional evaluation of cases following site visits and detailed reports from our specialist Inspectors. Regard is then had to the NPPF, the Council's development plan policies, procedures and legislation in order to effectively resolve a wide variety of breaches of planning control, including dealing with any appeals and court hearings that may arise.

Please refer to the Job Description for more information.

About You:

You will need a degree or diploma in Town Planning and experience of enforcement or development management. Tact and diplomacy in dealing with a wide range of people will be required and an understanding of and strong commitment to customer care. You will be well-organised with good communication skills and able to set priorities and work to deadlines under pressure.

We want applications from people who have the passion, determination and ambition to make a difference within Westminster to deliver the very best for our residents, businesses and communities.

What We Offer:

If you’re as productive as you are ambitious and collaborative as you are enterprising, this is your chance to take real ownership of your work, right in the heart of iconic Westminster, a true ‘City for All’. This is a unique place where it all happens. And where it could all happen for you.

As a progressive and innovative organisation, we welcome applications from candidates keen to work in an agile environment with flexible conditions.
