Assistant Sustainable Travel Co-ordinator
(6 Months Fixed Term Contract)
SO2: Starting salary £32,592 pa rising in annual increments to £34,299 pa incl LW
Lambeth is a dynamic and exciting borough that stretches from the banks of the Thames opposite the Houses of Parliament to Streatham and West Norwood in the south, via the South Bank, Clapham, Brockwell Park, iconic Brixton and the UK’s busiest station at Waterloo. With over 320,000 residents, bustling markets, iconic venues and public events across our town centres, the borough is home to diverse, strong and engaged communities.
Lambeth Council has ambitions to be the most cycle-friendly borough in London. It is considered to be a progressive borough when it comes to sustainable travel, but there is a lot more work to be done. The sustainable travel team has been known to deliver high-levels of cycle training in schools and for individuals. This along with many other interesting projects such as Secret Lambeth walks, Try Before You Bike, annual Car Free Days and bike recycling projects make the team's remit an exciting one. Going forward, the cycle hangar installation project, which oversees the implementation of both on-street and Lambeth's estates hangars, has been included to allow for a wide-reaching travel behavior change programme.
Funded by the Local Implementation Plan budget from the Transport for London coffers, projects are created to reach targets set by the Mayor's Transport Strategy for Healthy Streets, to make Lambeth a pleasant place to walk and cycle and encouraging the move away from single occupancy motorised journeys. The Lambeth Transport Strategy reflects these targets with a localised focus and will create the basis for a sustainable travel action plan.
We are looking for a passionate and articulate person to assist with the successful running of the sustainable travel programme. The postholder will be working closely with the Sustainable Travel Co-ordinator to create campaigns to promote travel behaviour change. They will be enthusiastic about cycling, walking and pushing the sustainable transport agenda in a diverse central London borough. Experience of managing projects from inception to completion including events and campaigns is desirable. The person appointed will have excellent skills of prioritising and thinking creatively. They will be highly organised, able to work flexibly, customer focused and be adept at meeting demanding deadlines in pressurised circumstances, possess excellent communication skills (both verbal and written) and excellent IT skills.
The closing date for receiving completed application forms is Sunday 13 January 2019 at midnight.
Interviews will take place on Wednesday 23 January 2019.
