The Council Tax Service is an innovative department with a strong commitment to collecting and recovering debts in a fast and proficient manner. It is responsible for the administration, collection, and enforcement of council tax within Havering. Recovery of Housing Benefit overpayments also forms part of this service.

About the Job 

Your responsibilities as the Council Tax Team Leader role will include:

  • Lead a team responsible for the administration and collection of council tax 
  • Representing the Council at court  to pursue unpaid council tax debt. 
  • Resolve issues arising from the collection and enforcement of council tax
  • Respond to complaints and enquiries within the corporate timescales
  • Have a proactive approach to maximising collection of council tax and minimising arrears

About You 

We are looking for an enthusiastic, hardworking and reliable person, who enjoys working on their own as well as within a team environment to join us as one of two Council Tax & Recovery Team Leaders within the Council Tax Service. You should have at least five years’ experience of working in a busy debt collection environment. 

The successful candidate will have:

  • A firm knowledge of current policy and practice and the ability to interpret and apply council tax legislation to work practices
  • Leadership and people management skills including motivation and performance
  • Experience in communicating with a diverse range of audiences both orally and in writing
  • A customer focused approach to debt collection
