Fixed term: £427 per annum is subject to a minimum attendance requirement (4 years subject to confirmation by Full Council each year)

The Post
Brent Council’s Audit & Standards Advisory Committee is responsible for providing challenge and assurance on the Council’s control environment, focusing on risk, control, governance, and financial issues, alongside promoting and maintaining high standards of conduct by members (including co-opted members) of the Council.
In particular, the Audit & Standards Advisory Committee will consider and comment on:
- External Audit Annual Management Letter and reports
- Reports from the Head of Audit on internal audit reviews undertaken in accordance with the Annual Audit Plan
- Any significant issues arising from external or internal audit work.
- The annual audit plan.
- The Head of Audit’s annual report and assurance opinion.
- The Annual Governance Statement
- The Statement of Accounts.
- The Treasury Management Strategy.
- The effective development and operation of risk management policies in the Council.
- The Council’s arrangements to protect the Council from fraud, bribery and corruption.
The Audit and Finance independent member of the Audit &Standards Advisory Committee, provides independent challenge, support and advice to the committee in undertaking these functions, supplementing the knowledge and experience of elected representatives in specific areas, providing continuity outside the political cycle and helping to achieve a non-political focus on governance, risk and control matters.

The Person
The successful candidates will have a keen interest in Local Government Finance and a wish to serve the local community and uphold local democracy. They will have technical knowledge/experience of Local Government Finance and be able to maintain independence, impartiality and integrity at all times.
Any involvement in political activity or campaigning, particularly at local level, may affect public perceptions of independence. Applicants are asked to indicate the nature of such activity and whether it may affect public perception of independence.
