Join us on our carbon reduction journey!

Brent is a tremendously vibrant London borough where the iconic arch of Wembley Stadium dominates the skyline. Spanning both inner and outer London, it is a borough of huge contrasts in terms of its economic, environmental, ethnic and social make up. Brent’s diversity is evident to all who visit our borough and our long history of ethnic and cultural diversity has created a place that is truly unique and valued by those who live and work here.

The council is pursuing a far-reaching transformation agenda that better meets the needs of our community so it is an exciting time to join us.

The Post

A vacancy has arisen for an Energy Manager to lead the development and implementation of the Council’s energy strategy.  With over 300 local authorities declaring a climate emergency including Brent, and nearly two thirds of councils in England aiming to be carbon neutral 20 years before the national target, councils are well placed to support Government to meet its net zero carbon ambitions by 2050 and the Energy Manager is a key position to enable progress towards meeting the challenges of becoming carbon neutral.

We are looking for a pro-active individual to join our small but dynamic Energy Team and to lead the development of our work to enable the council to effectively and sustainably manage its energy resource. The role will include ensuring that efficient systems are in place to monitor and validate energy consumption and manage payments, managing the development and delivery of the Council’s energy efficiency programmes and emerging Council Net Zero Carbon Strategy and ensuring that the Council complies with legislative and reporting requirements for energy consumption and carbon emissions across the Council’s operations.

The Person

We are seeking an experienced and knowledgeable energy expert and leader, with previous experience in this sector and good knowledge of current sustainability issues.  You will lead and manage the Energy Team with the support of the Head of Facilities Management / Director of Property & Assets.

You will be a strong communicator who can engage with all levels of the organisation, working closely with senior managers, to create the buy-in to deliver energy efficiency projects that deliver financial and carbon savings.  You will also have a track record of delivering successful energy efficiency, carbon reduction and financial savings strategies and programmes and require good project management experience.  The role will require the successful candidate to innovate, develop and lead council energy strategy, projects and policy.

This is an exciting opportunity for an individual with enthusiasm, passion and resilience who wants to further their career and assist in developing and delivering a critical council service that will help create a greener and more efficient Council and Borough.
