About the role:

Waltham Forest consistently achieves above London averages for children receiving a place in their 1st preference mainstream school at both Reception and Year 7. We see this as a vital part of the Council's mission to ensure that every child is given every opportunity to thrive.

The mainstream School Admissions team sits within the borough's Access, Participation and Inclusion service. As the Head of Admissions Commissioning you will lead an experienced and highly-committed team of Admissions Officers, and manage an internal SLA for business support, to ensure that the service provided to both residents and schools continues to be of the highest quality.

As a professional with significant experience within school admissions you will bring highly developed interpersonal skills and a drive for continual improvement to ensure that the service works with both internal and external partners to ensure the best outcomes for our children.

Key Responsibilities:

Ensure the LA meets its statutory duty to provide a school place for all children who apply, in co-ordination with the Place Planning team.

Ensure that the admissions service is effectively delivered to meet high customer service outcomes for both parents and schools

Ensure that co-ordinated and in-year processes for admissions to primary and secondary schools are delivered in accordance to the Admissions Code and Pan London scheme

Key projects: Re-procurement of School Admissions and transfers software

Direct line management of small core Admissions team and management of internal SLA with Business Support team

Qualifications and Requirements:

A strong working knowledge of the Admissions Code.

A proven record of successfully providing leadership and management within Local Authority School Admissions services.

Experience of budget monitoring and management.

Proven track record of developing a service to meet the diverse needs of the community.

Strong understanding of customer services

Ability to develop strong professional relationships with partners and stakeholders

High-level working experience of Admissions software, such as Capita
