School Organisation Project Officer

The focus of this role is to support children and young people. You will be a key member of Commissioning School Places team. You will be expected to help on all aspects of pupil place planning and demonstrate strong analytical skills as well as a sound knowledge school organisation legislation and policy. Equally important however will be the ability to engage and effectively communicate with a variety of stakeholders within the education and schools sector. This is an important role which will also require the post holder to provide information and advice to school leaders and governor, senior officers and elected members of the council.

Specific duties include:

Asset Management

  • Act as the lead officer from the Commissioning School Places Team by working with the Asset Management Team to manage the efficient completion of AMP surveys including condition and net capacity for making statutory returns and the preparation of funding/capital bids, providing information to assist in the formulation of programmes of expansion works for schools.
  • Participate in the development, planning and delivery of the programme of expansion and/or school re-organisation works to ensure that projects are delivered according to the programme plan.
  • Work with the programme delivery team to develop creative solutions to problems with the projects including responsibility for monitoring progress reports and advising the School Organisation Manager of the outcome and any impact on the programme. 

School Organisation and Place Planning

  • Make a contribution to and facilitate where directed, the implementation of any school competition arrangements relating to the provision of new schools.
  • To support a range of statutory processes and procedures, including publication of notices, conducting consultations, liaison with Headteachers, Governing Bodies and legal services.
  • To provide support for the production and regular review of a comprehensive annual pupil place planning report, including accurate projections for early years, primary, secondary and post-16 pupil numbers and SEN, ensuring the local authority meets its statutory responsibility for providing sufficient high quality school places
  • To make a significant contribution to the development of strategies, policies and procedures for dealing with matters relating to the supply of school places.
  • Supporting the processes for making all statutory returns and plans in a timely and accurate way, including the school places return to the DfE and planning obligations processes.
