About the role:

We are recruiting for two part-time workers (18 hours per week) on a one year fixed-term contract to coordinate day to day operations of a small community training café based in the Dementia Hub in Leyton. The cafe will be open on Tuesdays and Thursdays 9.00 am - 3.00 pm and accommodate up to six learners at a time. The role will manage the day-to-day running of the cafe, including maintaining inventory and ensuring that the café is clean and well-presented at all times, and supporting trainees with learning disabilities and/or autism to gain experience working in a community café. The educational element of the café will be undertaken by the learners Adult Learning Service

Key Responsibilities:

  • To provide an appropriate level of support and guidance to participants on a training programme within the café who have learning disabilities and/or autism.
  • To contribute to regular reviews of participant progress and identify any further support needs.
  • Ensure the smooth operations of the café setting, including ordering in supplies, ensuring that equipment is maintained and any defects reported, hygiene regulations are adhered to, payment systems and cash-flow are maintained, and that the café is clean and presentable throughout.
  • Seek customer feedback on their café experience and take on board and suggestions for improved ways of working.

Qualifications and Requirements:

To be considered for this position, you should meet the following requirements:

A Level 3 Award in Food Safety for Catering
  • Experience of working in a café environment
  • Experience of working with people with learning disabilities and/or autism
  • A positive, can do attitude - finding innovative solutions when met with any challenges
  • Effective communication and influencing skills
  • Excellent leadership skills - able to motivate and develop a diverse, busy team
  • Exceptional customer service experience - always seeking to make improvements to the customer experience through continual feedback and reflection
