About us

Camden is listening to everyone, including you.

We’re giving a platform to people inside and outside our community. Because, we’re not just home to the UK’s fast-growing economy. We’re home to the most important conversations happening today. And we’re making radical social change a reality, so that nobody gets left behind. Here’s where you can help decide a better future for us all

The role

We have a great opportunity for an experienced and qualified Occupational Therapist to join our multi-disciplinary service. The main purpose of the role is to provide timely, accurate and supportive housing and health assessment services for residents who apply to our housing register and households who approach under the homelessness legislation. The post holder will be tasked with assessing the medical conditions of housing applicants, where information has been submitted and where appropriate to make recommendations and support interventions such as specific equipment and/or adaptation provision that may be required.

You will be required to carry out assessments for social housing and homelessness applicants in full accordance of any relevant legislation, codes of guidance, the Council’s housing allocations scheme and in-house policies and procedures in order to provide a fair response as well as at the same time protecting the Council’s interests. You will also be asked to comment on layout plans for new build wheelchair accessible homes in the borough and may be asked on occasion to visit these developments.

About you

To find out more about what it is like to work at Camden, meet some of our People by visiting 'www.camdenjobs.co.uk/our-stories'.

To be considered for this fantastic opportunity it is essential the successful candidate has a recognised qualification in Occupational Therapy (Degree or Diploma) alongside current HCPC registration.

You will be experienced in managing a dynamic and diverse caseload and operate as efficiently as possible, striving for continuous improvement. You will work in partnership with PRPs and developers regarding new social housing wheelchair units. You will also need to work collaboratively with colleagues across the Council, for example with officers within the Allocations Service, Homeless Prevention Service, Adult Social Care, Housing OT Surveyor, SEND, Housing Partnerships, the Voids and Repairs Services and Children, Schools and Families and other partner agencies in the Council. You will also need to manage the council’s relationship with any external provider of medical assessments.

The successful candidate should have prior experience of working in a similar multi-disciplinary team setting and will process the ability to make appropriate assessments based on recommendations on all activities a resident undertakes throughout the course of their day. You will look at alternative methods, techniques and strategies for coping with functional deficits as well as making suggested alterations to resident’s homes. Experience of working in a hospital setting would be desirable but not essential.
