An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Brent Deaf and Hearing Support Service as a Qualified Teacher of the Deaf

The Post

The Qualified Teacher of Deaf will:

  • Perform the tasks and duties of a specialist teacher in line with the SEND Code of practice, Children and Families Act 2014 and the Quality Standards for Specialist teaching and Support Services for D/deaf children and young people (CYP) guidelines for professionals.
  • Manage and prioritise an assigned caseload of D/deaf CYP in family homes and settings.
  • Promote the successful inclusion and learning opportunities of D/deaf CYP in educational settings.
  • Provide training and INSET as required, to ensure all D/deaf CYP are fully included in their settings and their needs are met.
  • Work alongside parents/carers in order to enhance their understanding of their child’s hearing loss and needs and  support their child’s communication skills.
The Person

The successful candidate will be enthusiastic, flexible and committed, able to work as part of a team. They should have:

  • Qualified teacher status preferably in EYFS or Primary Education 
  • Mandatory qualification in Deaf Education
  • BSL1 or above
  • UK driving licence desirable
