Permanent Full time
Location: Belfast, Cardiff, Edinburgh or London

The Electoral Commission is the independent body which oversees elections and regulates political finance in the UK. We work to promote public confidence in the democratic process and ensure its integrity. As one of two Senior Advisors for Procurement, you’ll provide strategic commercial and contract management insight and expertise.

The role
In this pivotal role, you are a guardian of financial integrity, ensuring the Electoral Commission's financial compliance and governance reach the highest standards. Operating autonomously, you will fortify internal controls, enforce regulatory adherence, and strategically mitigate financial risks.

The person
In the role of Financial Compliance Accountant, you will lead critical aspects of financial governance, ensuring the integrity of the Electoral Commission's financial operations. Spearheading internal financial processes, you will vigilantly monitor compliance, proactively addressing non-compliance, and develop, implement, and maintain robust controls for system access. Your regulatory expertise will shine as you provide insights on matters such as FReM, IASs, Managing Public Money, and HM Treasury prescriptions. Conducting inquiries into areas of concern, you'll recommend future internal audits to strengthen the financial fabric of the Commission.

Your role extends to risk mitigation and audits, addressing internal audit findings, fostering staff awareness, and implementing necessary changes. You will play a pivotal role as a sounding board for complex accounting issues, engaging in technical discussions and presenting recommendations for changes to financial controls and systems. Possessing a CCAB qualification, you bring a deep understanding of financial control systems and processes, staying updated on the latest financial technologies, software, and best practices.
As a leader, you'll mentor staff, foster continuous learning, and drive cross-functional collaboration to enhance overall understanding of financial controls. Your autonomy to drive financial control enhancements and creative solutions, coupled with your accountability for effective delivery, positions you at the forefront of safeguarding the Commission's financial landscape. Proactively identifying and mitigating risks associated with financial control changes, you will assess the impact of technology advancements on the financial landscape, ensuring the Commission remains secure, compliant, and adaptable to emerging trends. Join us in shaping the future of financial governance at the Electoral Commission!
