We are seeking a skilled and experienced Primary Mental Health Worker who can embrace difference to offer consultation and support to our social work team.  You will have a qualification and professional registration in Family Therapy, Clinical Psychology, Mental Health Nursing, Psychotherapy or other equivalent mental health profession. You will have experience and , training in clinical practice and be able familiar with a variety of therapeutic interventions and psychological theories and frameworks to help make sense of children/young people and their families’ experiences is vital. This might include expertise in areas such as play therapy, systemic ways of working, narrative therapy, cognitive behavioural approaches, mentalizing strategies, solution focused therapy.

At the heart of our practice are relationships that make the difference to our children and young people’s outcomes. You will offer consultation and direct one to one therapeutic support to our groups, foster carers and children. The Primary Mental Health Workers have been part of the Corporative Parenting Services for some years and have developed a model combining direct work and consultation which has successfully maintained placements which might otherwise have broken down.Waltham Forest was rated as Good in our recent Ofsted inspection.  They also found ‘Leaders have made strong progress to establish a resilient, sustainable and child-focused service’ and judged the overall leadership

You will have worked with children and young people in a statutory setting and understand the issues facing children in care and care leavers. You will have good communication skills and work as part of a team to deliver improved outcomes for children and young people’s emotional wellbeing. You will have excellent consultation skills and the ability to formulate clinical difficulties and co-ordinate networks around the child. This role is to provide   consultation and direct , interventions with children and carers as service delivery progresses.
