Job Title: Head of Mayors Office
Job Ref: CED-22-031
This role is at the heart of Lewisham Council, and acts as a bridge between the Mayor and Cabinet and the wider organisation, supporting a strong relationship between the political administration and the Council’s senior leadership, working collaboratively with colleagues across the Council and with local, regional and national partners.
No two days will be the same; from undertaking policy research and arranging briefings to representing the Mayor, horizon scanning for emerging issues and opportunities and ensuring the Mayor’s Office is run efficiently.
You’ll be highly organised, with experience of managing busy teams or projects with competing priorities. You’ll oversee a team of cabinet support staff and political assistants, providing an excellent, professional service for our politicians, colleagues, partners and residents alike.
A team player, you’ll thrive working with a diverse range of people, be great at building relationships and bring well-rounded experience to this important post. You’ll be passionate about making a difference and share our Council’s values.
It’s an exciting time to join Lewisham Council; we’ve gone through significant changes in recent years with a new political and senior leadership team, however we face unprecedented challenges as the impact of the cost of living crisis looms, demand for our services is growing, and our relationship with local partners has never been more important.
Despite the challenges, we’re ambitious for our borough, and we are determined to do everything we can to make life better for local residents and businesses.
We are the country’s first Borough of Sanctuary and are hugely proud of the work we are doing to tackle inequalities, including building homes to tackle London’s housing crisis. We are London’s small business capital and we are pushing forward with our ambitions around climate action. Not only that, we are the Mayor of London’s Borough of Culture, which is shining a light on the unique creativity, history and pride that exists in every corner of our borough.
What we’re looking for
We’re looking for someone to lead the office of our elected Mayor and Cabinet, to provide strategic advice and support the delivery of their ambitious manifesto and the Council’s new corporate strategy.
In return, we’ll offer excellent development opportunities, plus a range of benefits that includes a career average pension scheme, flexible working and the opportunity to make a real difference to our local community.
N.B: All appointments will be offered at the minimum spinal column point (SCP) for the grade of the role. The only exception to this will be when matching current salary (up to the maximum of the scale), which is subject to evidential proof.
