Southwark is a large, ambitious and progressive council with a ‘can do’ attitude and enviable reputation. As a Council, we are successful, passionate and forward-thinking. We are committed to our ‘Fairer Futures for All’ promise which ensures that our residents and businesses are central to everything we do. If you want to make a difference at a local level, apply to Southwark Council today.
The Placements Team is positioned within Children's Services in the Access to Resources (ART) Service. It is a dynamic and busy team interacting with each service area across Children's Services.
The role is to work collaboratively to provide a flexible and high-quality Placements Team with the purpose of: improving placement choice and stability for children in care; improving the experience of social workers, foster carers and children in identifying suitable placements; delivering the best possible value to the Council in terms of cost and quality of placements.
Also the role is to: provide bespoke packages of practical support to foster carers, young people and families in the community, maximise placement viability and stability, prevent placement breakdown and retain foster carers. Also to work to identify matches between children and suitable foster carers who can meet their emotional, educational, cultural and health needs, and who can provide stability and a sense of belonging.
You will hold a recognised social work qualification or equivalent child care equivalent qualification and have knowledge of the placement needs of looked after children and of care leavers. In addition you will have experience of managing a team and working across organisational boundaries to achieve positive outcomes for children.

We are an organisation who is passionate about our people and understands that richness of diversity is a requirement to provide the best possible services to our communities. This is demonstrated through our council-wide ambitious commitment to tackle racial inequality in our communities and workforce through our Southwark Stands Together programme. We particularly welcome applications from members of the Black, Asian and ethnic minority communities to increase representation at senior management level in the Council.
