Hackney Education is the Education Services department within Hackney Council. It provides a range of statutory and traded services to support the education of children, young people and adults in the borough. Our vision is to provide excellent education for every child, young person and adult learner.

Hackney Education is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. Positions at Hackney Education can be subject to an Enhanced DBS check.

Hackney is one of the UK’s highest performing local authorities, serving one of London’s best places to live and work. We have achieved a huge amount: our services, our schools, our public spaces are all amongst the very best. We have changed the reputation, not just of the Council, but of Hackney itself. Bringing jobs and investment into the borough, securing the legacy from the 2012 Games, and making this a place of which we can all be proud.

The Re-engagement Unit offers fast, responsive support to schools in Hackney around children experiencing SEMH challenge. We are a systemic support service, and work in school, in the home and directly with the centred child. Understanding of the impact of environmental factors (such as trauma, attachment) on a child and young person, and being able to support them and the people around them to unpick their behaviour to better understand, and then address, their pain is at the heart of what we do.

We are looking for a dedicated and dynamic Business Support Offer to support the team in providing comprehensive and professional administrative support for the Re-engagement Unit, ensuring that systems meet procedural requirements and that all work undertaken is produced to a consistently high standard.

The BSO will act as first contact point for enquiries (some which may be complex and/or contentious) from other staff, members of the public, representatives of outside organisations, agencies etc. Giving relevant information and dealing with queries where possible and where not possible, to direct people to the person they need to speak to.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join one of our highest functioning services, offering fast, effective operational support to children, schools and families managing SEMH challenges. The successful candidate will above all be dedicated to working towards social justice, and to delivering a high quality SEMH support service with sincere empathy as its core value. We are focused, highly skilled and responsive to our children and schools’ needs. In return for your hard work and commitment, you will be joining an exciting and highly successful service, with excellent levels of support and lots of opportunity for development.

Interviews: 4th July and 5th July 2022

Hackney Education is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. We expect all staff to share this commitment. We are also working towards our vision, which is to be a place for everyone; where residents and staff can be proud; a place that celebrates diversity and where everyone can feel valued, included and involved. In order to achieve this, we look for people who are: Proud; Ambitious; Pioneering; Open; Proactive; Inclusive.

Hackney Council works to eradicate discrimination on the basis of race, religion, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, pregnancy and maternity, age and marital status. We also recognise that people can be disadvantaged by their social and economic circumstances, so we will also work to eliminate discrimination and disadvantage caused by social class.
