Croydon is one of the busiest retail and business centres in the south of England outside of Central London. It has the largest population of any London Borough and its success as a regional centre very much depends upon the way its day-to-day traffic, highway, parking and road safety issues are managed.
We are seeking an enthusiastic and self-motivated Traffic Engineer to work within the Parking Design Team on the design and implementation of parking schemes and the end-to-end process for the creation of Traffic Management Orders. The post holder is required to manage their workload with little supervision to provide stakeholders with a professional and efficient service.
You will have a degree or ONC/HNC in civil engineering (or equivalent engineering qualification) and be able to demonstrate experience in the design and implementation of parking schemes. This will require a detailed understanding of design criteria for parking schemes and an understanding of Traffic Management Orders.
You will have experience of formal and informal consultation, public notices and be able to deal with objections diplomatically and impartially.
You must be computer literate and have experience in the use of AutoCad and geographic information systems. For this position you must have excellent oral and written skills and the ability to work on your own initiative.
You should also have a current driving licence or be able to travel quickly and efficiently around the Borough by other means. Starting salary will depend upon qualifications and experience.
This is a key post within the Highways and Parking Section of the Sustainable Communities, Regeneration & Economic Recovery Directorate
