An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Front Door Business Support Officer within the SEN Service.
SEN is a statutory service providing support to children and young people with SEN who have an Education Health and Care Plan. We have 3,500 EHC plans and a team of 16 SEN Officers, 5 Business Support Officers alongside 4 team-leaders across four teams: Assessment Team, Review and Transfer Team, Looked After and Vulnerable Children Team and a Post 14 Team.
As pathfinders for the SEND Reforms, Enfield are passionate and ambitious about improving the outcomes of Children & Young People aged 0-25 in the borough with Special Educational Needs and/or Disability. We have a good reputation as a service and recently had a positive Ofsted/CQC Covid 19 review. The service is well supported by, The Director of Education, Head of Service and our partners in the Educational Psychology Service, Admissions, School Improvement and Children and Adult service leads.
As the first point of contact for a wide range of written and oral queries from internal and external customers in relation to all SEN matters, you will have the skills to respond to incoming phone calls, emails and posted correspondence on the role and function of the service in a professional, sensitive and efficient manner, triaging, answering queries and taking messages. As a regular and intrinsic part of this role requires you to speak to members of the public in English, the ability to converse at ease with customers and provide advice in accurate spoken English is essential and consistent with the requirements of this role. This role also requires you to be polite and courteous when conversing with the public and have good interpersonal skills with a range of people including children, young people, parents and practitioners.
You will need to have excellent administrative skills including confidence in using Microsoft Office and will need to learn how to use the case management system. SEN is a busy service so the ability to be able to work at a fast pace, manage and balance priorities whilst maintaining personal resilience is extremely important. You will also need to have knowledge of the Special Educational Needs and Disability Code of Practice, Children and Families Act, the Education Act and The Equalities Act and be able to support parents/carers and young people on the opportunities that are available within the Local Offer.
Relevant experience in an educational setting, local authority, or with children and young people in a related field is essential to take on this role alongside a track record of exceptional customer service and the ability to think with a person-centred approach.
We are open to our service users between the hours of 8.30 and 4.30 and our business support officers are expected to be available for work during these times. The ability to learn and work remotely and independently is vital. Although some work will require you to work in the office, we anticipate will be working remotely around 50% of the time. You must be able to commute to Enfield, as this is not a full-time remote position.
