Develop data analysis and market research skills in a cross-functional learning environment

Brent is a tremendously vibrant London borough where the iconic arch of Wembley Stadium dominates the skyline. Spanning both inner and outer London, it is a borough of huge contrasts in terms of its economic, environmental, ethnic and social make up. Brent’s diversity is evident to all who visit our borough and our long history of ethnic and cultural diversity has created a place that is truly unique and valued by those who live and work here.

The council is pursuing a far-reaching transformation agenda that better meets the needs of our community so it is an exciting time to join us.

The Post

The Performance, Insight and Improvement team (PII) is a multi-disciplinary team of analysts and improvement specialists who work across the Community Wellbeing Department; encompassing Housing, Adult Social Care, and Public Health & Culture. The service helps operational teams to robustly monitor and improve performance and quality, to gain more sophisticated insight into the needs and experiences of our service users, and to design and deliver lasting improvements across our services.

We currently have a vacancy for an Assistant Analyst in our Research & Customer Insight Team.

The post supports senior analysts with the delivery of insight projects from concept to delivery, with the opportunity to own your own projects going forward. You’ll deliver in-house market research – from writing questionnaires and moderation guides, doing the fieldwork, analysing results, writing reports and presenting findings back to stakeholders at all levels. You’ll evaluate and analyse data from multiple sources (both internal and external) to identify trends and producing meaningful insights.

Our analysts have the opportunity to work on projects across the whole of Community Wellbeing, so this is a unique opportunity to gain exposure to a wide range of services. Our analysts work closely together across teams, giving them the opportunity to develop and learn from one another.

The Person

The ideal candidate will be an excellent communicator; someone who can think about the best way of presenting data to make a powerful case, and can find creative ways of presenting and sharing findings. You’ll be self-motivated and keen to learn, with a “can-do” attitude and a readiness to suggest practical and innovative approaches to solving problems and undertaking research.

You’ll be comfortable working with large data sets, with good data handling skills, including merging and cleaning data so it is in a user-friendly format. Good excel skills including basic manipulation such as formulas and pivot tables is essential.

Existing knowledge of market research, public health analysis or behavioural sciences would be an advantage, as would a working knowledge of analysis and visualisation tools such as SPSS or PowerBI, though these are not essential.
