Redbridge is an ambitious, diverse and exciting east-London borough. What we do is driven by changing our relationship with local people to support our vision. As a result, we've developed innovative ways to build our communities and transform our Council.

We're one of the fastest growing parts of the country and the third most diverse London borough. Our communities are attracted by a mixture of excellent schools, relatively affordable housing, high-quality open space and rapid transport connections into the heart of the City.

In a global city with a population of millions, managing our Highways network really matters. And that’s why we need a strong and experienced leader to be Head of Highways and Transportation in Redbridge. We’re ready to push forward with major improvements and change the way we work, which gives you the chance to shape and develop a modern, professional service.

With responsibility for engineering, street lighting, network management, street works, contract and stakeholder management and delivery of a significant capital programme, this role comes with a broad portfolio and responsibility – which is exactly what you like. You’ll thrive on the opportunity to drive progress across the board, backed by focus on sustainable transport.

To help you, there’s a team of capable managers and their dedicated teams. You’ll develop them, taking officers and the service to the next level. At the same time, you’ll improve internal processes which will deliver improved success and speed of delivery. With responsibility for drainage and flood management too, there’ll be plenty to keep you busy and engaged.

A local government background isn’t essential, but you must have Highway’s expertise. With this experience, you’ll know how to manage contracts, deal with technology and build relationships with a number of key partners. As you shape improvement, you’ll need to navigate a complex political landscape, so you should be ready to influence and manage high-level connections.
