Hate Crime Officer

Waltham Forest Council, it’s residents and its key partners have identified tackling Hate Crime as one of the key priorities for the Borough. We are looking for an experienced, motivated and dedicated Hate Crime Officer to coordinate and deliver the boroughs initiatives tackle hate and foster community solidarity.  

This role offers a chance to lead on a number of exciting initiatives, including continuing the delivery of recommendations set out by the first Citizen’s Assembly to stop hate, so that everyone can feel equally welcome and safe in the borough.

The post holder will lead bespoke training programmes for community ambassadors to increase awareness, community resilience, monitor local tensions, identify support pathways for victims and witnesses, and restorative justice to perpetrators. A key part of the role will be establishing community reporting hubs that will reflect and serve the boroughs diverse communities. There will also be opportunities to develop practice improvement and capacity building strategies for the partnership to effectively tackle Hate in the community.

This role will ensure that of Waltham Forest’s Hate Crime support offer is at the forefront of best practice and fully delivered, and that the partnership continues to explore and develop innovative approaches to impact positively on community cohesion.

You will have at least three years’ experience working within Community Safety, VCS organisations or a similar setting, and have similar experience in delivering projects which have proven positive impacts on communities. The nature of the role will evolve as the priorities of the programme develop, and the post-holder will have a good understanding of what hate crime, is and what legislative framework sits around these areas. This role will focus on developing relationships with external community partners. This will require skills in project management, and close partnership working with both statutory and voluntary partner organisations.

The post is an 10-month fixed-term contract, subject to extension. Further detail is outlined in the Job Description as attached.
