Are you looking for the next challenge in your finance career? West Berkshire Council are seeking an ambitious, innovative finance professional to join our Finance and Property Service as a Finance Manager.
This is an exciting opportunity to make your mark at the Council as you will play a key role in supporting the Chief Financial Accountant to undertake a transformation programme across the Financial Reporting Service. The successful applicant will be onboarded remotely, with a view to returning to the office when it is safe to do so.
ABOUT THE JOB
As Finance Manager, you’ll work with the Chief Financial Accountant to lead a team of accountants in the coordination of key accounting functions. Your main responsibility will be to oversee statutory financial reporting. Your team will also be responsible for monitoring the Council’s annual capital programme and treasury function.
In addition, you’ll lead the implementation of improvements to the Financial Reporting Team, overhauling procedures in line with the challenges currently affecting local government. You’ll develop your team to meet these challenges and instil a culture of rigour, motivating employees to work both efficiently and innovatively.
You’ll also deputise for the Chief Financial Accountant when required.
You’ll be a CCAB qualified accountant with at least 4 years of post-qualifying experience. You’ll also have had a significant amount of experience leading a team of at least 5 accountants, as a key requirement of this role is to develop and train a team of 11 staff.
You’ll have a successful track record of service development and implementing procedures, ideally in a local government setting. Experience and a working knowledge of statutory and fixed asset reporting is essential for success in this role. An understanding of capital programmes and treasury functions is also desirable.
The ideal candidate will be a self-starter with a strong technical knowledge. You’ll be forward-thinking and an excellent communicator, with the ability to motivate a team of hard-working professionals.

Following the return to the office you’ll be given the opportunity for home working, with an average of 2 days in the office a week.
