ABOUT THE JOB
Head of Service for Safeguarding and Intervention is one of four HoS roles in the Children’s Social Care Senior Team, leading social work practice for children in need and children in need of protection, where skilled intervention to ensure safety within families is the key focus.
This role offers an opportunity for an experienced senior social work leader to play a key role in delivering excellent outcomes for children in Newham as part of our overall improvement journey. Newham has a clear vision to provide children with the best outcomes through a practice model of restorative and systemic practice – and this role will be vital in providing this direction for several services. A team of systemic practitioners led by the Director of Clinical Practice will support the application of systemic practice within all our services.
The Safeguarding and Intervention service provides a wide range of long-term support to families, working with children subject to child in need and child protection plans, Care Proceedings and working with complex cases involving children in care. The role has Service Manager direct reports managing teams and the Care Proceedings Manager role. It is a role where engaging with multi agency partners is key to successful outcomes for children. The position reports to the Director of Operations; Children’s Social Care and Safeguarding.

Shortlisted candidates will be asked to attend a socially distanced Assessment Day at Newham Dockside on the 16th December 2020 (candidates will need to be available for the full day). There will also be a Young People’s Panel interview on the afternoon of the 15th November 2020, which will be facilitated using Zoom. Candidates will need to be available on these dates.
