About the role
The personal advisors in the UASC team provide vital support and advice to our Care Leavers during their transition from living in care to full independence.
It’s an exciting time to be join this busy team, who are a highly committed group of staff - they are passionate about ensuring this cohort of care leavers are offered the best opportunities possible to:
- successfully adapt to life in the UK
- engage in education, training and employment opportunities
- acquire budgeting and independence skills
- maintain their accommodation and secure housing
- live a healthy lifestyle and access health services
- make positive use of community and leisure services
- promote family and friendship links
- be aware of their responsibilities as citizens
The team also works closely with other professionals, including solicitors, the Home Office and Immigration officials, to support young people with their claims for asylum, and help them navigate the complexities of this often long and arduous process.
Brighton & Hove re-designed children’s social work services in Autumn 2015, part of which was the formation of a team dedicated to work with unaccompanied minors, and care leavers who arrived as unaccompanied minors. We believe that putting relationship-based practice at the heart of everything we do enables us to provide consistent and quality support to this cohort of care leavers so that they can have the very best start in adult life and to live happy, healthy and safe and independent lives.
The changes that were introduced have had a very positive impact on our ability to provide consistent and unbroken support to young people, as the UASC team works with young people from the day they arrive, through to their 25th birthday, if they want a post-21 service from us. Our recent Peer Review highlighted that our ‘social workers and support staff at every level were impressive’ and they had ‘confidence in the management team’. But we can’t realise our ambition to become a centre of excellence and best practice without more dedicated, skilled and motivated workers like you.
We will give you the time and active support you need to make a real difference to young people’s lives and you will be encouraged to take part in practice research and to contribute to practice development within the service.

Your starting salary will be pro rata if the above position is part-time or term-time only.
Work Permits: we may be able to obtain a Work Permit for this post but this is subject to meeting the requirements of the UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) Points-based Immigration System.
