Peabody have a full time, permanent opportunity for a Housing Support Worker to join the team at our young people’s supported housing scheme in Colchester. In return we can offer a competitive salary of £18,706 per annum + Sleep in (£73.89 per shift).

The Housing Support Worker role:

Bernard Brett House provides support and accommodation for young people, aged 16-21 years, being referred through the Essex County Council gateway. The service accommodates and supports 16 & 17 years olds, Care leavers and some 18 to 21 years olds who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.

The scheme operates 24 hours, 7 days a week, across 365 days per year (incl. weekends & bank holidays). The staff team work within a rolling rota which includes 1- 2 sleep in duties on average per week.

Responsibilities of our Housing Support Worker include:

- Provide individualised support to tenants so that they are best able to benefit from the service being offered and are able to manage their lives more effectively and achieve personal goals.

- Encourage tenants to participate and engage with staff support by being an excellent communicator, reliable, credible, empathetic and innovative in approach.

- Assist tenants in adhering to the responsibilities of their tenancy and to any specific rules of the scheme.

- Minimise as far as possible conflict and confrontation within the service between tenants and visitors.

- Provide opportunities by which tenants will be enabled to develop independent living skills.

- Encourage tenants to recognise the benefits of additional support services related to their individual needs and assist them in accessing these services.

- Encourage and support tenants to pursue social/recreational activities, training and employment opportunities

- Ensure that tenant participation, involvement and inclusion throughout the service. To ensure the tenant's views are sought and heard in relation to organisation and support issues.

- Be aware of the risks that tenants and service users pose to themselves and others and to follow the Risk Assessment and Management procedure.

What we’re looking for in our Housing Support Worker:

- Good verbal and written communication skills

- Well organised with good administrative skills and able to keep accurate records

- Experience of working with vulnerable groups in a paid or voluntary capacity

- Awareness of safeguarding, including how it is applied in a housing setting

- Able to demonstrate a sound understanding of Professional Boundaries

- Able and willing to work within a 24 hour rolling shift pattern

- An awareness of the importance of risk assessment processes in a support setting
