Our main aim for integrated working is to get it right first time for more children and young people. To do this, we plan to grow our early help offer so that we make a real impact on children and young people’s learning, achievement, health, wellbeing and resilience. We will closely align our services to improve accessibility for residents and to strengthen partnerships between statutory, specialist, early help and universal services.
Newham council is now the first London borough to offer a fully integrated 0-19 health and social care service as we have also assumed direct responsibility for providing School Nursing services, Health Visiting and Family Nurse Partnership in 2017, therefore CYPS will be delivering the 0-19 Healthy Child programme through the Children’s Health Service.
The 0-19 Children's Health service had their recent CQC inspection in 2019 and rated Good in all areas.
Safeguarding Children Advisor/Nurse - 12 months fixed term
£42,681 - £45,585 inclusive of higher cost allowance - LBN P05 equivalent to AfC band 7
The Safeguarding Children Advisor will be responsible for providing supervision and training in child protection to staff across the 0-19 service in order to support their work with vulnerable children. The post holder will be part of a team providing child protection advice, support and training to staff across the Children Health workforce. They will work with the wider Safeguarding workforce to ensure an effective governance framework is in place. The role will include supporting the CYPS Children’s Triage Team.
This role will provide support to members of the team involved in child protection processes through support in attending child protection conferences, strategy meeting and other interagency professional meetings as the need arise.
The post holder will provide advice and expertise regarding child protection to staff across Children’s Health, working in partnership with other Safeguarding leads and other members of the CYPS team, including the Newham Safeguarding Children Board (NSCB), to ensure safety and quality of service delivery. A key responsibility of this post, would be to facilitate staff in developing their knowledge base in safeguarding children, through innovative practice, using supervision models to support high quality delivery of services and effective case management.
The service is seeking a Safeguarding Children Advisor with experience of working in a service with complex population needs and vulnerable families. This role is for someone with in depth knowledge of the 0-19 public health nursing service (Family Nurses, Health Visiting and School Health Teams) and its key priorities. The Safeguarding Children Advisor must have expertise in child protection supervision and training and have a comprehensive understanding of risk management in relation to case management and care planning.
The post holder must be able to work effectively within a multiagency team and provide a high level of safeguarding support to community health staff.
The candidate must be/will have:
•Post registration/graduate-Specialist Practice Qualification in Health Visiting/School Nursing
•Hold a current NMC registration
•Teaching Certificate or equivalent mentorship training.
•A minimum of three years’ experience as a qualified Health Visitor/School Nurse
•Multi- agency/multidisciplinary working
•Experience of direct supervision of qualified and unqualified staff
