The post holder willwork a 35 hour week and will participate in the out of hour’s rota.



Role Purpose

Toassist the Environmental Health and Trading Standards Service in managing thePublic Mortuary based in Poplar.

Todeliver a joined up response to the Coroner’s Service and to assist withdischarging the Council’s duty in relation to Public Health funeral’s.



Key Responsibilities

Thesuccessful candidate will:

Contribute proactively to the overall running of and helpdevelop short and medium term strategies to deliver the mortuary service.

Carry out casework, and assist in the pathologist inpost-mortems and forensic cases, including keeping records, administrativearrangements for the reception of bodies into the mortuary and the release forburial or cremation.

Maintain an awareness of all legislation, professionaldevelopment and new initiatives nationally and locally in respect of themortuary service.

Undertake casework of a high profile or complicated natureas necessary and assist the pathologist in post-mortems and forensic cases.

Proactively participate in the management of the health andsafety policies applicable to the mortuary.

Participate in and assist in maintaining a comprehensivesystem of monitoring and reporting of performance against targets.

Be able to work out of hours

Contribute proactively to the overall running of and helpdevelop short and medium term strategies to deliver the mortuary service.

After a post-mortem, the post holder will help toreconstruct and clean the body ready for storage or release to an undertaker.

In additionyou will assist with making preparations for Parish Funerals.



Requirements

Youwill need to demonstrate the following skills:

1. Experience of continuing professionaldevelopment within the Mortuary Service.

2. Experience of working in a Mortuary.

3. Excellent communication skills, both verbaland written.

4. Well organised, with good administrative andcomputer skills.

In additionyou will need to have the following qualification:

Applications are invited from candidates who hold the old style Diplomain Anatomical Pathology Technology or the Level 3 Diploma in AnatomicalPathology Technology with relevant extensive, experience in both routine andhigh risk post mortem cases.
